The Elmira Store

The general store

The nearest supermarket
is a long way off

So we try to carry the things you'd otherwise drive for — staples, bulk goods you can buy by the pound, and a few local items you won't find in town.

Wire shelving stacked with clear bags of brown rice, white rice, pinto beans, kidney beans and split peas, each with an Elmira Store label.

Bagged in-house

Bulk grains & beans

We break down sacks and bag them ourselves, in one- and two-pound bags with our own label on the front. It's cheaper than the boxed version and there's no packaging to throw away.

  • Long grain brown rice
  • Calrose white rice
  • Rolled oats
  • Pinto beans
  • Red kidney beans
  • Green split peas

Stock rotates with what we can get. Call ahead if you need a quantity of something particular.

Stacked clear tubs of salted peanuts, fruit and nut mix and macadamia mix on a wire shelf, each with a printed ingredient label.

By the tub

Nuts & trail mix

Packed in resealable tubs and labelled with exactly what's in them — handy for a glovebox, a day pack, or the drive over the pass.

  • Salted peanuts
  • Macadamia nut mix
  • Fruit & nut mix

The fruit and nut mix runs cashews, almonds, pecans and pistachios with mango, apricot, dried sweetened cranberries and chocolate-covered raisins.

From neighbours

Local, and worth the stop

These two move quickly and aren't always on the shelf. A phone call beats a wasted drive.

Two bagged sourdough loaves with handwritten labels reading Garlic and Rosemary Sourdough, beside a bare golden loaf on a butcher block.

Sourdough loaves

Round loaves with a blistered, well-baked crust, bagged in paper and labelled by hand. Plain, or garlic and rosemary when it's made.

A gallon and a half gallon of raw Guernsey milk from R-Ranch Proteins of Bonners Ferry standing on the wooden counter.

Raw Guernsey milk

From R-Ranch Proteins in Bonners Ferry, about twenty minutes north. Gallons and half gallons, in glass, in the cooler.

Everything else

The get-you-home shelf

Not a full supermarket shop, but enough to save the trip when you've run out halfway through cooking.

Pantry Cooking oils, vinegars, condiments, honey, corn meal, corn starch, pasta and canned goods.
Cold Milk, eggs, butter, cheese, soda, water and energy drinks in the coolers.
Snacks Chips, candy bars, jerky and the sweets rack by the register.
Ice cream Eight flavours in the dipping cabinet, plus shakes, smoothies and floats to go.

Can't see what you need? Ask. It's a small store run by people who live here, and a fair amount of what's on the shelves got there because somebody asked for it. Call (208) 263-3071.
